Columbus, Ohio's Yogi Split returns with his incredibly honest new EP Swimshirt. Yogi starts things off with his battle with self-image on the title track "Swimshirt". He raps about his insecurities about being shirtless at the pool and feeling like covering up. This project is full of beautiful instrumentation layered with Split's intelligent cadences. Matthew Vaughn, Troi and Wes all make guest appearances on the bonus track "WYD". This is a real rap album from start to finish, evoking strong emotions on topics of race, police, love and life. Mr. Split is gonna be here for a while, get used to it.
New Jersey's Ish Williams, drops off his incredibly impressive new project I'll Be Okay. This collection of music has a strong emphasis on the challenges of mental health and overcoming demons to become great. Williams variation of flows encapsulates a rare balance of songwriting prowess matched with melodic greatness. Mir Fontane, another one of Jersey's underground kings joins ish on "SOS" for an honest letter to the people. Shaqeyah adds some solid vocals to the final cut "Be Somebody" while Williams preaches a message of self-love and finding you're true potential. This project will turn some listeners into fans, stay tuned for more from this guy.
East London's Rachel Foxx unveils her sultry new 7-track EP entitled FLAME. Foxx's rich alto-tone pushes powerfully through the speakers showcasing a full sound sonically. Only accented instead of drowned out by the instrumentation, Rachel can sound good over damn near anything. "Happen To Me" it's a smash waiting to happen. Lil Xelly and Noir Brent drop off their second installment of the lucky charms series with ##luckycharms2. Noir Brent has been blessing the streams with some of the best off-the-wall production. His variation with melodic progression meshed over grimy production gifts these rappers with a lush backdrop. Xelly is from this new generation of energetic artists not holding anything back. Only 6 tracks on here, but good lord they are all different styles of slaps. "Pot O Gold" is a personal favorite, but "LUD FOE" goes crazy too. ICYTWAT is back once again with his Dream Bwoy EP, which is essentially 8 tracks of pure madness. This off-kilter style of production has paved a way for a variety of producers across the spectrum. TWAT's creativity is endless and he pairs with artists who are open to his abstract sound. "Daydreaming" with Kyeoshin is a time machine back to an era of pure soul sounds. "Enzo Music" allows TWAT to flex his vocal prowess along with some more stellar instrumentation. IndigoChildRick and Huey Briss shine as usual on their guest verses. Versatility is the common theme throughout this one. ICYTWAT is an underground king, though it's only a matter of time until the world is familiar with this TWAT.

Ohio-Bred Isai Morales drops off his introspective new project entitled Curación. Isai touches on serious situations such as suicide and letting his mother down in the intro track "Temporary". Most of Morales' music up to this date is very care-free, but it's nice to see him tap a darker reality. The guest production on here is provided by AirKalo, The Grinde, IcyTwat, and Luna. Each of these song's production still embodies Isai's usual musical prowess while pushing him to be great. "Fake" and "Perception" are two strong standouts on this one. With wild guest features from Chris Crooks and Luna on "Space", this makes for a great finale to the project. Isai isn't stopping anytime soon, pay attention.
Queens crooner, Nesta drops off his new EP entitled Shook My Dreads. Building more momentum after the release of his smash "Benjis", Nesta is proving he can curate sounds that with withstand the hands of time. "Melody" is a fusion of 80's drums and powerful vocals. "Transparent" is a hard-bodied cut that possesses a confidence that can't be denied. "The Heat" slows things down for the only ballad-like song on the EP. His island tone and sound adds a heavy zest of energy to these six songs. Don't sleep on this guy, he's a unique take on 2018's R&B scene.
Apollo and Carter Brown team up to drop some new on their EP Thanks Coach. This project is a wondrous mesh of banging drums and sultry R&B. The overall mood is melodic on each of these 8 tracks. With cuts like "Practice" and "Cap" these two Bronx-based artists are truly onto something. It's wild more people aren't hip to this wave, but we have a strange feeling that will change soon.
