Coming through with the "Too Humble" EP, Freshie and Tezo take the Cleveland mentality across the map with production from Springz as well as a major feature from Key!. There’s something about the warm weather that increases our yearning for new music. The berth of the sun after long and grueling winter months brings a rush of Vitamin D that breathes new life into every fiber of our being, and musicians know once the spring hits our auditory senses are on fire. Scientist Chris Rogers and musical engineer Jesse Jones concluded that warm weather has negative effects on instruments, but we believe the the heat has the exact opposite effect when it comes to artists. As cliché as it sounds, a temperature increase lights a fire underneath creatives, and often with the wave of music that comes from artists emerging from their winter work hibernations, some incredible artists are lost in the wash. In the infinite quest to bring new and innovative artists to the masses, we’ve put together a list of nine incredible, unsigned artists that you might not be listening to, but should definitely have in rotation as the summer months roll in. Meet a few of your new favorites and check this out.
Lets be honest, lately we’ve force fed some pretty cookie cutter R&B music post the era of PND and Bryson Tiller. Among the new crew of artists revolutionizing the smooth sounds we hear such as Ye Ali, SabaPivot and Ella Mae, Rhode Island has tucked away it’s brightest gem who goes by the name of BOY. After listening through his constantly growing catalog of music, BOY quickly diminished the list of things he cant do. Wearing his “Beach Boy” nickname proud, Boy adds airy island flair to anything he touches, which frequently includes incredible tracks from producer Chad Desjarlais.
Florida is often looked at as one of the craziest places in the world, but in the vast vortex of southern weirdness the Sunshine State holds one of the most polished young rappers in the game right now. It doesn’t take long for the 19 year old Marco to earn the respect of any artist and music lover that passes through Orlando, and soon that talent will be known worldwide. Today’s music usually has a standard sound, and Marco has traded trap beats for fun production and lighthearted lyrics that document life from his standpoint as a young man growing into his talents. His recent Rolling Loud performance in Miami will prove to be just the start of something special.
If you are a music listener with a grocery list of things you use to classify what you determine good music, Bernard Jabs will have you questioning all of your previous decisions. What Bernard has learned in his time in Georgia is delivered in a playful manner with entertaining wordplay that’s hard to stray away from. Out of all of his peers, Jabs probably shows and the highest amount of major industry preparedness that will soon have him seeing global success and stamped as a household name. Bernard is definitely one artist here to give music’s greats a run for their money.
Queens is known to bring legendary hip-hop acts to the table, and Flee and his Ghost Gang counterparts have taken everything we’ve known and flipped it. Today many rappers dip their toes into melodic waters, but the magic we’ve seen Flee create along with producer’s StoopidXool and Cash Cobain has really changed the game. Whether he’s rhyming, crooning, or calling for the release of a few of his close homies, Flee exudes a real New York swagger behind an incredible pen and enjoyable subject matter. It often takes artists multiple songs to persuade a fanbase, but just only listen will have you on the Flee bandwagon.
Genre blending artists come a dime a dozen, but those who can do it masterfully posses one hell of a power. Ohio's Lil Loski is constantly reinventing himself, which is just one reason he’s catching the eyes and ears of so many. Pinning Loski to one style is difficult as no one song sounds similar to the next, but his Pop-infused cuts stick with you whether Loski topic is heartbreak, love or his prophecy driven journey to the top. If you’re looking for an artist with breakout ability to tap multiple markets, then this is it.
The DMV is no stranger to creating musical prodigies, but when we first tapped into the catalog belonging to Maryland’s Lil Xelly, we knew we had stumbled upon something special. Not only is the rate Xelly creates music impressive, he does it with so much precision that it comes off as extreme ease. Xelly’s been working for awhile now, dating his first recordings back to age 12; so as music as grown over the past few years Xelly has been right there changing with it. Xelly has his fingers on the pulse of the game right now, and with such a bright career ahead of him, it’s a matter of time before he has it in his palms.
If you’ve ever been new in an area and unsure on the idea of checking out a local show full of new talent then let our experience with Columbus’ Miir sway you in the right direction. In a room full of bright stars, Miir shines like you’ll never believe, and her soulful stories will place a serious hold on you. Miir (which we hope is short for miracle) has a wonderful story to tell, and she delivers each chapter with a sense of elegance backed by a real street flair that’s going to ignite a huge flame once the world catches wind.
There’s got to be something in the Ohio waters that drives local artists to greatness, because the young man Tobilla has got talent by the boatload. The young Columbus native has the vision, and if we can take anything away from his catalog, it’s that he’s not afraid to show it. Tobilla’s releases come with gaps in between, but that’s just because a brand of art such as his cannot be rushed. An expert at determining the mood and curating a perfectly correlated vibe, Tobilla might be heralding of the next big industry shift we’ve all been searching for.
Soon the underdogs won’t be so “under” anymore, and Cleveland’s Freshie is on a lightning fast track to the top. Already one of the best rappers in his area, Freshie’s gritty street mentality translates into catchy and banging tracks with a flow that brings energy throughout every listen. Freshie’s recent excursion to LA has given tastemakers an eye full at what talent has been building outside of Lake Erie, so expect him to provide the worldwide wave shortly.
DIRTY! That's right folks, Cleveland's Freshie has come through with a crazy new heater courtesy of producer BeatPluggTwo. Dropping a new heater inspired by his brand new ink additions, Freshie recently shared "Tats On My Face", and it's been in constant rotation. Switching up his flows a little bit, the new cut has Freshie putting a whole new spin on his gritty street sound. We need more like this, check this out.
Cleveland's Freshie has a talent that's catching the attention across the entire country! After a recent trip to the west to get the creative juices flowing and opening for Chief Keef back home a few days ago, Freshie is back to dropping music which is something we can all celebrate. This is poised to be a breakout year for the buzzing rapper, and with his two new tracks "Right Now" & "Brady Bunch", he's well on his way to greatness. The two new tracks are complete opposites as "Right Now" has Freshie flowing over an airy undefinedthegod produced cut, and "Brady Bunch" has Freshie getting back into the gritty, street sounds that we've come to enjoy over T.N.C's production. He's got a lot more up his sleeves, so be sure to check these out.
Everybody stop what you're doing because Freshie is back with another banger! Celebrating his birthday today, the young Cleveland fire spitter has returned to gift everyone with a brand new track titled, "Don't Understand". Getting production from Taybeatz, Freshie's new cut has him manning a brand new flow over sparkling production, but don't get it twisted, he still brings the heat. Stay tuned for more new work come the new year and go wish him a happy dirtyday. Check this out.
Time and time again, we've been gifted with new heaters from Cleveland's budding star Freshie. Embodying the rags to riches lifestyle, Freshie grinds non-stop whether it be behind the mic or on his day to day hustle, which is one of the many reasos he's seeing so much success. If you've ever caught a live performance from the 216 native, his energy and bravado are those of artist way ahead of his time; a testament to his position among his peers.
Since it's just a matter of time before the world catches on to his many talents, Freshie decided to give everyone a crash course to who he is with a brand new documentary. Directed by Dre Seavors, Sergmyster, Miles216 and Freshie himself along with edits from Believe, the new mini-film is titled, "Still Busy"; and features various footage from Freshie around Cleveland and testimonials from those close to him. You can also expect to see cameos from some Cleveland heavy hitters as well in the mini-movie. Get familiar and check this out.
As a follow-up to his visual for "Dirtyboyfresh" which was released late last month, Freshie returns to the east side of Cleveland in "Don't Ask". The lean-infused video features Freshie stunting Saint Laurent shades and mobbing with his crew. The Gosuto-produced track differs from "Dirtyboyfresh", providing lighter production fitting for the summer. Ball out with Freshie below.
One thing I wouldnt expect soon, is for Cleveland's Freshie to slow up. After his "Diryboyfresh" EP, Freshie's been aiming to take heads off with every solo release and feature, proving he's a lasting problem for anyone trying to claim the cities crown. This time with the help of talented producer, Captain Crunch, Freshie is back with his newest drop yet. The track is titled, "Cant Switch Up". and is near 3 minutes straight of Freshie snapping and reminding you that it's gang forever. This is easily one of the hardest songs out of Cleveland right now. Check it out.
The man DJ TOPGUN just doesnt stop with the hits! After giving us the first glimpse of his "RAGE" project with Lil Flex's "NASCAR1600", we get another look at the star studded project. This time pulling Cleveland's Freshie, CHXPO and Ron$oCold, we get the crazy new track, "Kasper". Produced by Yung Icey, all three take turns killing the near 4 minute track, which has us itching for the full project. If these are the sneak peaks, we can only image what TOPGUN has tucked for the full release. Check it out.
We've been watching the retweet count on a snippet of this video climb daily until we were granted the full thing. We already told you how insane the talent out of Cleveland is, and at this point if you haven't taken notice, then it's a personal loss. As two of the cities biggest and fastest rising names, Freshie and 55Bagz are already having breakout 2017's. Bagz is CMG's newest signee and with the amount of high quality tracks Freshie has been kicking in the past few months, he's probably not far behind with a major signing of his own. Linking up with the people over at ELEVATOR and director Dre Seavers, we get the new video for Freshie and 55Bagz's latest cut, "No Info". The one take video has Bagz and Freshie hitting the streets of Cleveland, joined by Lo Life Lane and more. This has us thinking about how wild a 55Bagz X Freshie collab tape would be, but we're glad we finally get to enjoy this. Check it out.
